Lucero/Oak Creek Village
Color is Lucero's soul: brightly painted walls, drawing on Luis Barragán and the woven striations of Mexican folk art, sweep across the facades as a living color wheel that lifts the spirit and quietly guides residents home. With open-air corridors peeling away from the units to draw in light and breeze, Calvin Chen turned economical housing into a place of poetry.
A colorful exterior corridor system stitches the housing blocks together and is thus conceived as a color wheel. A continuous gradient of ambient color environments shifts as residents move through the development.
The building massing is punctured by light wells and "color canyons" that pull these tones into the shared circulation and activate communal space
